Why prepare for an emergency or disaster?
You may need to survive for a few days alone with your loved ones after an emergency until the rescue crews get to you. This means that you need to have enough water, food and other supplies not only for you, but for your pets as well. And you should have enough to last for three days at least. Pets are most vulnerable in the emergency situation as when the rescue teams do get to the scene, they have to help people first and even then cannot reach everyone right away. Keep in mind that basic services could also be affected and it may be days, if not weeks, before your water/gas/electricity/sewage access is restored. As advised by Ready America: "Get a kit. If you are warned that a wildfire is threatening your area, listen to your battery-operated radio for reports and evacuation information. Design and landscape your home with wildfire safety in mind. Select materials and plants that can help contain fire rather than fuel it.
