Top 6 Myths of the Animal Kingdom Busted!

Myth #6 - Dogs Bark before Attacking

Usually, it is right the opposite. Yes, you can feel the aggression coming from the barking and chasing you dog but, nonetheless, it’s just a warning for you. This way the dog attracts your attention, demonstrating her frustration and demanding that you leave. If the dog barks and shows her teeth – this shows a threat and her unwillingness to go into a fight.

In all other cases, the dog, like any other predator with the intention of attacking a human, will do so quietly and without barking. So if you see a dog coming onto to you with the ears and head lowered, with the tense body and piercing eyes, be sure – she is about to attack!

Myth #5 - The monkeys enjoy grooming each other!

It would be sweet to think that our closest relatives from the animal kingdom enjoy taking care of themselves and helping each other stay fit and clean. However, this is not the case. Monkeys do not groom each other to catch and remove fleas or other parasites. They are interested in mini crystals of salt that happen to be trapped in their fur as a result of sweat producing glands.

Mostly all monkeys live in hot climates which results in natural shortage of mineral salts. “Grooming” each other proves to be an effective way to find a well-balanced mix of mineral salts so important for a good nutrition.

Myth #4 - Elephant, the strongest animal on the planet.

It’s hard to argue with this statement. Just recently an experiment was held in South Africa where an elephant was pulling a rope with the 100 members of the sport team trying to pull it in the opposite direction without any success.

However, the strongest representative of the animal kingdom is an ant. This tiny insect can pull the weight 20 times more its body weight without a break for hours, even going on vertical surfaces. If the man had this power, he would easily lift a bus weighing 10 tons.

Myth #3 - If the dog has a hot dry nose, she is sick and has a fever.

This is another myth buster. Dry and hot noses of our favorite pets could be result of exhaustion, being tired or asleep, signs of nervousness, or happen during very dry or hot weather.

The first thing an owner should do is pay attention to the dog’s general well being: its appetite, mood, and energy level. If you are concerned that your pet is acting sick, don’t hesitate and call your vet right away.

Myth #2 - Snakes love milk!

It’s hard to argue with such vivid childhood memories from Mowgli cartoon and everybody’s favorite Jungle stories. However, the specialists insist that snakes do not like or digest milk, especially lactose. They can’t stand the smell or taste of milk. So don’t try to feed a snake milk not to get some of their own remedy in return – poison!

Myth #1 - Camels save water in their humps.

Many thousands of camels get killed in the desert by hand of lost adventurers in dying need of water.

However, the scientists proved that camels don’t store fat, not water, in their humps, which their body knows to break apart into water and carbon dioxide. The camel’s body is programmed to lose as little fluids as possible and use its saved resources wisely. Living in a desert climate, camels don’t have sweat glands and have a very high capability to concentrate their urine to keep many bodily fluids in longer. This method helps the camels to live without water for 3 weeks
